Originally I wanted to attend CMU out of high school. I had applied, been accepted, but them opted to attend Albion College at the last minute to pursue a collegiate football career. I was not happy with Albion so the following fall I transferred to CMU. So I would definitely say follow your heart on a college choice. Majoring in electrical engineering, I was always in the engineering building which most current and alumni couldn't direct you to that building. So needless to say, the engineering building wasn't my favorite, maybe closer to the opposite due to all the stress and misery it caused me. Okay, engineering’s not that bad, buts definitely a degree that's earned.

I'd have to say my favorite part of campus was the student recreation center (SAC). The SAC contains cardio equipment, weight room, swimming pool, hot tub, sauna room, ping pong tables, pool tables, basketball courts, volleyball courts, racquet ball courts, indoor soccer rooms, and anything other sport related activity you could imagine. This is typically where you would find me in my spare time (there's really no such things as spare time in college). If I wasn't in the weight room I was biking, kayaking, and fishing all over Mount Pleasant, especially in the summers. If you do attend CMU and you have the opportunity to stay on campus for the summer, do it! There’s multiple jobs on campus that will allow you to stay on campus for free during the summer while you work. I did this after my first year there and that's how I met and made many friends. The best advice I can offer is get involved. There's so many opportunities to meet, network, and become good friends with many people from various backgrounds. Take chances, be bold, and be brave because college is about finding yourself. Also, spend your refund check wisely!

I chose CMU because of the atmosphere. It felt like a home away from home, I did not feel threatened, and everyone walking the campus had a smile on their face and pep in their step. My favorite place to go on campus is the SAC pool. Between billiards and the swimming pool the SAC helped me de-stress. I also loved the Student Government and Mass office. Anytime I needed anything I knew someone in each of those offices could help.

The best part of Central is the plethora of student activities/clubs/events to get involved in. From plays to concerts or comedians and magicians Central had a bit of every experience on one campus. The greatest and most noteworthy part of CMU is that the majority of your professors want nothing more than to see you succeed and if you reach out to them they will help you in any way they can. They notice when your something is up (my Pre-calculus teacher was able to recognize that I was not feeling well and my grades were slipping and encouraged office hours bringing my grade from a D to a B by semesters end).

Central Michigan University is one of the most underrated universities in the state.  I did not fully realize this until I graduated and entered in a Physician Assistant program with graduates from University of Michigan, Michigan State, Wayne State, and other top universities and came to the conclusion that my education from Central had equally, if not more, prepared me for such a rigorous program.

I always knew my decision to attend CMU was one of the best decisions I ever made.  Having the president of the university (who is also from the same city as me) send a letter the summer before I attended to congratulate me on all the accomplishments I made in high school and to personally tell me how excited he was to have me on campus that year showed me how welcoming CMU was!

CMU is really a true gem! It gives so many scholarships to their students, I, along with a number of other students, graduated debt-free. I also appreciated the campus size and how down-to-earth some of the staff members and my professors were. It made them much more approachable and gave students incentive to build those important relationships. CMU is a university that takes a student leadership approach and allow students to take on roles and positions on campus that they would not be able to receive anywhere else. Most notably, programs like their Alternative Breaks, Leadership Safari, and Multicultural Advancement are programs that are student-led. I believe my involvement in those programs where I participated and helped run are experiences I would have been able to gain only at Central. CMU makes me a proud alumna!
